Who are we?

Highpath Engineering is run from 2 small workshops in rural Wales by a couple of multi-talented engineers who made their reputations through innovative work with cycles. In the mid 1990's they designed the ground-breaking 'Brox' quadricycle which has been widely acclaimed and has been featured on several televison programs about technical innovation.

Chris Chris Bell has a BSc degree in electronics and a Diploma for teaching 3-dimensional design. He is well-known for his 'EGGring' cycle chainrings which have enjoyed an enviable reputation ever since their introduction in the 1980's, have been exhibitted in London's Science Museum and Millenium Dome, and been used to win Olympic gold medals.
A passionate advocate for appropriate technology, Chris is proud to use a bicycle for everyday transport. He also programs RISC OS computers and remains bewildered by the forces of marketing which have swamped the World with the technically-inferior Micro$oft PC. Before moving into engineering, Chris spent 12 years teaching science and technical subjects in the UK and Africa.

Dave Wrath-Sharman came to the world of engineering design with a background in fine-art. He became well-known for his pioneering work designing and building offroad cycles long before the "mountain-bike" arrived on the scene, and he is the acknowledged World-authority on cycle hub-brakes, having produced some of the only ones that really work!
Dave is no longer involved on a daily basis but he still uses his imaginative skills and experience in various innovative projects, from battery-assisted recumbent cycles to energy-efficient cars.

Lewis Many of Highpath's products owe their detailed design to work done by Lewis Whiteland, a talented young engineer who is now working on Formula One racing cars in Surrey. Whilst at Highpath Engineering, Lewis gained NVQ3 and Modern Apprenticeship qualifications. He is sorely missed!

Highpath Engineering is currently involved in a variety of projects, many of which involve design and prototyping. We are members of the Mid Wales Manufacturing Group and have worked for clients across the World, including in the USA, Japan, Germany and Australia. We can handle most aspects of mechanical design, engineering and electronics, from blacksmithing to precision CNC milling, from problem-solving to CAD-CAM, and from one-off prototypes to small-batch production. Lateral thinking is our speciality and no project is too large or small. Needless to say, we take great pride in the high quality of all our work. Please contact us if you need help!
