Use a Pulse Swing Crank when one of your legs doesn't bend as much as it should. It enables your leg to contribute as much effort as it can without being lifted so high.

Fully adjustable for different degrees of disability

The Swing Crank and the Crank Shortener each have three pedal holes. These allow you to adjust the effect to suit your particular needs, and you can even reduce the effect in stages as you recover from a leg injury:

Normal setup: If you need to bend
your leg less:
If you can bend
your leg more:
Swing Crank: middle position
Crank Shortener: middle position
Swing Crank: long position
Crank Shortener: short position
Swing Crank: short position
Crank Shortener: long position
middle positionshort positionlong position

There are other possibilities if you have difficulty straightening your leg completely at the bottom of the pedal stroke.
For example, you can use just the Crank Shortener on its own:
Crank Shortener: middle position Crank Shortener: short position Crank Shortener: long position
alternate positionalternate positionalternate position
Or you can use one of these intermediate setups:
Swing Crank: short position
Crank Shortener: middle position
 Swing Crank: middle position
Crank Shortener: short position
 Swing Crank: short position
Crank Shortener: short position

(The lengths assume your cranks are 170mm long. Increase them by
10mm for 175mm cranks and reduce them by 10mm for 165mm cranks.

How to check if a Swing Crank is suitable for you

Pulse Swing Cranks suit riders who can raise their foot at least 200mm (8"). Ask a friend to help you check how high you can lift yours:

1) Raise your saddle so your
leg is almost straight at the
bottom. Measure height A.
 2) Lift the pedal and your
foot as high as you can.
Measure height B.
 3) The height you can lift
    your foot is B - A.

You will be able to use a
    standard Pulse Swing Crank
if this is 200mm (8") or more.

Riders with more severe disabilities

We may be able to supply a longer Swing Crank if you can't raise your foot 200mm. In this case we will need to modify your existing crank. Please contact us to discuss your special requirements.

Note
  • Pulse Swing Cranks can be used on most upright bicycles and tricycles, but are
not recommended on recumbents unless you are particularly fit and active
  • They suit cranks up to 41mm wide and standard adult pedals
  • They are available in left and right versions
  • They are machined from high grade aluminium alloy and incorporate sealed
    bearings and stainless fasteners
